Some Christian leaders, scholars and politicians have resorted to propaganda against Islam in the areas of jihad, war and terrorism. The purpose of propaganda based on misrepresentations and misinterpretations in these areas seems to be to deflect attention away from the main differences between Christianity and Islam some of which are:
· Who is the God of the Muslims, if not the God of Abraham?
· How and when the blessings promised by God to Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael were fulfilled?
· The Divinity of Jesus?
· The validity of the Trinity?
The interpretation of the Bible itself requires knowledge and understanding to perform proper exegesis, without which a person may read a personal interpretation into the meaning of the verses, which is called eisogesis. The proper intepretation of the Quran and Hadith, and the derivation of Islam law from these sources requires an even greater degree of knowledge and understanding. It is doubtful whether these Christian critics of Islam are even qualified to perform exegesis of their own Bible, yet they jump in where even learned Muslim scholars would fear to tread, and offer their own misinterpretations of Quran and Hadith as being the rules and laws of Islam.
Whether the Christian leaders and scholars who are generating the propaganda understand the matter correctly or not, they leave no doubt about their motives. Their motives seem to be to make their followers so fearful of Islam and Muslims that they may not seek to learn or understand the truth about Islam.
