190-194 |
Fight
those who fought you and drove you out of your homes and persecuted and
oppressed you, until justice and faith prevail, or they cease fighting and
persecuting. No
hostility except against oppressors. |
190. Fight
in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits; for
Allah loveth not transgressors. 191. And
slay them wherever ye catch them and turn them out from where they have
turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight
them not at the Sacred Mosque unless they (first) fight you there; but if
they fight you slay them. Such is the
reward of those who suppress faith. 192. But
if they cease Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. 193. And
fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression and there prevail
justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease let there be no hostility
except to those who practice oppression. 194. The
prohibited month for the prohibited month and so for all things prohibited
there is the law of equality. If then
anyone transgresses the prohibition against you transgress ye likewise
against him. But fear Allah and know
that Allah is with those who restrain themselves. |

Deal
gently with people. Consult with them,
then decide and trust in God. Trust
in God. |
159. It
is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them. Wert thou
severe or harsh-hearted they would have broken away from about thee; so pass
over (their faults) and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult
them in affairs (of moment). Then when
thou hast taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust
(in Him). 160. If
Allah helps you none can overcome you: if He forsakes you who is there after
that that can help you? In Allah then
let believers put their trust. |

88-91 |
Fight renegades unless they join group with whom you
have peace treaty, or offer peace and withdraw and do not fight you. If they keep fighting you, kill them. |
88. Why should ye be divided into two
parties about the hypocrites? Allah
hath upset them for their (evil) deeds.
Would ye guide those whom Allah hath thrown out of the way? For those whom Allah hath thrown out of the
way never shalt thou find the way. 89. They but wish that ye should reject
faith as they do and thus be on the same footing (as they): but take not
friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (from what is
forbidden). But if they turn renegades
seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no
friends or helpers from their ranks. 90. Except those who join a group
between whom and you there is a treaty (of peace) or those who approach you
with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own
people. If Allah had pleased He could
have given them power over you and they would have fought you: therefore if
they withdraw from you but fight you not and (instead) send you (guarantees
of) peace then Allah hath opened no way for you (to war against them). 91. Others you will find that wish to
gain your confidence as well as that of their people: every time they are
sent back to temptation they succumb thereto: if they withdraw not from you
nor give you (guarantees) of peace besides restraining their hands seize them
and slay them. Wherever ye get them:
in their case We have provided you with a clear argument against them. |

75-76 |
Fight
against persecution and oppression |
75. And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who
being weak are ill-treated (and oppressed)?
Men women and children whose cry is: "Our Lord! rescue us from this
town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from Thee one who will
protect; and raise for us from Thee one who will help!" 76. Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah and those who reject
faith fight in the cause of evil: so fight ye against the friends of Satan:
feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan. |

11-14 |
These
verses refer to the Battle of Badr, where God descended a calm, “sakina”,
upon the Muslims. He
commanded the angels to help the Muslims fight the unbelievers. Ignorant interpreters do not realize that
the verse is addressed not to the Muslims, but to the angels, they are the ones who smote
the unbelievers, and God Himself is the One who instilled terror in the
hearts of unbelievers. |
11. Remember He covered you with a sort of drowsiness to give you calm as
from Himself and He caused rain to descend on you from heaven to clean you
therewith to remove from you the stain of satan to strengthen your hearts and
to plant your feet firmly therewith. 12. Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am
with you: give firmness to the believers: I will instil terror into the
hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their
finger-tips off them." 13. This because they contended against Allah and His apostle: if any
contend against Allah and His apostle Allah is strict in punishment. 14. Thus (will it be said): "Taste ye then of the (punishment): for
those who resist Allah is the penalty of the fire." |

59-62 |
Be
prepared militarily to deter enemies from attacking you if they think you to
be weak. If
the enemy inclines towards peace, make peace. Even
if the offer of peace may be a deception, take the risk for the sake of
peace. |
59. Let not the unbelievers think that
they can get the better (of Allah): they will never frustrate (them). 60. Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of
your power including steeds of war to strike terror into (the hearts of) the
enemies of Allah and your enemies and others besides whom ye may not know but
whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye
shall spend in the cause of Allah shall be repaid unto you and ye shall not
be treated unjustly. 61. But if the enemy incline towards peace do thou (also)
incline towards peace and trust in Allah: for He is the one that heareth and
knoweth (all things). 62. Should they intend to deceive thee verily Allah
sufficeth thee: He it is that hath strengthened thee with his aid and with
(the company of) the believers: |

7-16 |
If
a group of pagans kept to their treaty, be true to them. The
groups of pagans that violated treaties repeatedly, lied, expelled Prophet,
made war, fight them. |
Sura 9.
At-Tauba Section 2 7. How can there be a league before Allah
and His apostle with the pagans except those with whom ye made a treaty near
the sacred mosque? As long as these
stand true to you stand ye true to them: For Allah doth love the righteous. 8. How (can there be such a league)
seeing that if they get an advantage over you they respect not in you the
ties either of kinship or of covenant?
With (fair words from) their mouths they entice you but their hearts
are averse from you; and most of them are rebellious and wicked. 9. The signs of Allah have they sold
for a miserable price and (many) have they hindered from His way: evil indeed
are the deeds they have done. 10. In a believer they respect not the
ties either of kinship or of covenant!
It is they who have transgressed all bounds. 11. But (even so) if they repent establish
regular prayers and practice regular charity they are your brethren in faith:
(thus) do We explain signs in detail for those who understand. 12. But if they violate their oaths after
their covenant and taunt you for your faith fight ye the chiefs of unfaith:
for their oaths are nothing to them: that thus they may be restrained. 13. Will ye not fight people who violated
their oaths plotted to expel the apostle and took the aggressive by being the
first (to assault) you? Do ye fear them? Nay it is Allah whom ye should more justly
fear if ye believe! 14. Fight them and Allah will punish them
by your hands cover them with shame help you (to victory) over them heal the
breasts of believers. 15. And still the indignation of their
hearts. For Allah will turn (in mercy) To whom He will; and Allah is
All-Knowing All-Wise. 16. Or think ye that ye Shall be abandoned
as though Allah did not know those among you who strive with might and main
and take none for friends and protectors except Allah His apostle and the
(community of) believers? But Allah is
well-acquainted with (all) that ye do. |

1-6 |
Termination
of treaties with pagans of Arabia in four months, except for those who did not
violate treaties or help enemies, and remained true. Make war against those who violated
treaties, expelled the Prophet, and committed aggression against you. If they repent and become Muslim, forgive
them in spite of their past misdeeds. |
1. A (declaration) of immunity from
Allah and His apostle to those of the pagans with whom ye have contracted
mutual alliances. 2. Go ye then for four months backwards
and forwards (as ye will) throughout the land but know ye that ye cannot
frustrate Allah (by your falsehood) but that Allah will cover with shame
those who reject him. 3. And an announcement from Allah and
His apostle to the people (assembled) on the day of the Great Pilgrimage that
Allah and His apostle dissolve (treaty) obligations with the pagans. If then ye repent it were best for you; but
if ye turn away know ye that ye cannot frustrate Allah. And proclaim a grievous penalty to those
who reject faith. 4. (But the treaties are) not dissolved
with those pagans with whom Ye have entered into alliance and who have not
subsequently failed you in aught nor aided anyone against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the
end of their term: for Allah loveth the righteous. 5. But when the forbidden months are
past then fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them and seize them
beleaguer them and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if
they repent and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity then
open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. 6.
If one amongst the pagans ask thee for asylum grant it to him so that
he may hear the word of Allah and then escort him to where he can be secure:
that is because they are men without knowledge. |

Fight
those who do not submit to the laws of the land. Does not apply beyond the boundaries of the
Muslim country. Jews and Christians
paying jizya are exempted from military service. This verse is not a command to go conquer
the world, as it is often misrepresented |
29. Fight
those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day nor hold that forbidden which
hath been forbidden by Allah and His apostle nor acknowledge the religion of
truth (even if they are) of the People of the Book until they pay the Jizya
with willing submission and feel themselves subdued. |

Fight
pagan as they fight you |
36. The number of months in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year) so
ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four
are sacred; that is the straight usage.
So wrong not yourselves therein and fight the pagans all together as
they fight you all together. But know
that Allah is with those who restrain themselves. |

39-41 |
If
war is made against you, or expelled from homes, fight back. God
checks one set of people by another to protect religion. Authority
carries responsibility to obey God, to establish worship, to give charity,
enjoin right, forbid wrong. |
39. To
those against whom war is made permission is given (to fight) because they
are wronged and verily Allah is Most powerful for their aid 40. (They are) those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance
of right (for no cause) except that they say "Our Lord is Allah."
Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another there would surely
have been pulled down monasteries churches synagogues and mosques in which
the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure. Allah will certainly
aid those who aid His (cause); for verily Allah is Full of Strength Exalted
in Might (Able to enforce His Will). 41. (They are) those who if We establish them in the land establish
regular prayer and give regular charity enjoin the right and forbid wrong:
with Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs. |

36-42 |
Forgive
even when angry. Affairs
are by mutual consultation. Defend
themselves against oppression. Return
injury for injury, but better to forgive and reconcile. Be
patient and forgiving. |
36. Whatever
ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this Life: but that which is
with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put
their trust in their Lord; 37. Those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds and when they
are angry even then forgive; 38. Those who hearken to their Lord and establish regular prayer; who
(conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation; who spend out of what We
bestow on them for Sustenance; 39. And those who when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them (are not
cowed but) help and defend themselves. 40. The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree):
but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation His reward is due from
Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. 41. But indeed if any do help and defend themselves after a wrong (done)
to them against such there is no cause of blame. 42. The blame is only against those who oppress men with wrong-doing and insolently
transgress beyond bounds through the land defying right and justice: for such
there will be a Penalty grievous. 43. But indeed if any show patience and forgive that would truly be an
exercise of courageous will and resolution in the conduct of affairs. |

4 |
During
war, fight the unbelievers vigorously, subdue them, make them prisoners of
war. When the war ends, either let
them go free or take a ransom for them. |
4. Therefore when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight) smite at their
necks; at length when ye have thoroughly subdued them bind a bond firmly (on
them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the
war lays down its burdens. Thus (are
ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will He could certainly have
exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to
test you some with others. But those
who are slain in the way of Allah He will never let their deeds be lost. |

If
two groups of Muslims quarrel, make peace between them. If one group oppresses the other, fight it
collectively until it stops. Make
peace with justice and fairness.
Muslims are brothers, so make peace and reconciliation between the
groups. |
Sura 49 Al-Hujurat 9. If two parties among the Believers fall into a quarrel make ye peace
between them: but if one of them transgresses beyond bounds against the other
then fight ye (all) against the one that transgresses until it complies with
the command of Allah; but if it complies then make peace between them with
justice and be fair: for Allah loves those who are fair (and just). 10. The believers are but a single Brotherhood: So make peace and
reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers: And fear Allah that ye
may receive Mercy. |

6. O ye who believe! if a wicked person comes to you with any news
ascertain the truth lest ye harm people unwittingly and afterwards become
full of repentance for what ye have done. |

Enemies
may turn into friends, if God wills. (
Even if they are enemies), be kind and just to them if they do not fight you and
do not drive you out of your homes (do not fight or make war against them). Do
not show kindness to those (enemies) who fought you or drove you out of your
homes. |
Sura 60
Mumtahana 7. It may be that Allah will grant love (and friendship) between you and
those whom ye (now) hold as enemies: for Allah has power (over all things);
and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. 8. Allah forbids you not with regard to those who fight you not for
(your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes from dealing kindly and justly
with them: for Allah loveth those who are just. 9. Allah only forbids you with regard to those who fight you for (your)
Faith and drive you out of your homes and support (others) in driving you out
from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to
them (in these circumstances) that do wrong. |
